Earnscliffe Avenue is being completely rebuilt from Main Street to Little Road. This job includes road, curb and sidewalk improvements as well as upgrades to the underground infrastructure, including water, stormwater, and sewer.
When the project is complete there will be sidewalks on both sides of the road, on-street parking for Quiet Park and a safer parking area and pedestrian zone at the Wolfville Children’s Centre.
Concrete pads will provide transit users with a safer spot to get on and off the bus and pedestrian connections along the street will be improved.
Earnscliffe Avenue is a hub for services that support our community and these improvements will provide safer access to all members of our community.
This project will be completed over the summer months, and Town staff will communicate directly with those who will be most impacted.
Why is Earnscliffe Avenue being rebuilt?
The underground infrastructure (sewer and water) are at the end of their lifespan, and the road surfaces and asphalt sidewalk are crumbling and in poor condition.
Earnscliffe Avenue is home to the Wolfville Children's Centre, Eastern Kings Memorial Community Health Centre, and connects to Little Road, where the Wolfville Collaborative Family Practice. Improving accessibility, safety and connectivity to these essential services is key.
Enhanced Pedestrian Safety: The addition of concrete sidewalks on both sides, tactile plates for accessibility, and dedicated bus landing pads makes the street significantly safer for pedestrian and transit users.
Complete Infrastructure Renewal: This isn't just a "patch job." The project includes full replacement of water services, sanitary lines, and storm drainage up to the property lines.
Streetscape Beautification: Moving from old asphalt and inconsistent edges to a uniform streetscape with fresh sod, new boulevards, and concrete curbs will enhance curb appeal on Earnscliffe Avenue.
Current State of Earnscliffe Avenue:
Changes you can expect to see:
The road will be fully rebuilt and replaced with a 6.6 metre wide driving lane
New concrete curbs and gutters will be constructed along the length of the road
New concrete sidewalks on both sides of the road
Two new bus stop pads will be added to the street to support safe public transit access
A new concrete access to the Children's Centre to support safe access to the centre
A few trees are marked for removal to accommodate the new road and sidewalk, however many new trees (approximately 25) will be planted
Two dedicated on-street parking spots will be located near Quiet Park and the Children's Centre
