Every year, Acadia welcomes hundreds of international students to study and live in Wolfville. Being away from home for the first time can be tough but when you consider the added stress of navigating life in a new Country, things can become even more challenging.
Acadia University enjoyed a successful Host Family program for many years. It connected permanent Wolfville residents with international students, building relationships and support networks. Sadly, this program no longer operates within the community.
In early 2023, the Town completed community engagement focused on equity, diversity and inclusion. Much of the feedback from community mentioned the need to remove perceived barriers between the Town and the campus community. Feedback also highlighted the additional needs of our international student community.
The Town is considering developing and launching a new version of the Host Family Program. Over the next months, staff will be working with Acadia student, Aditi Sharma, to complete research and to develop a feasibility report that will be presented to Council.
The report will determine if a Host Family Program is still wanted or needed in the community while also determining what Town resources would be required to launch and operate this program. The report will also outline goals and objectives of the new program.
Please note: this is not a housing nor homestay program.
